Grattan Business Park, Portlaoise

This project entailed the conservation and restoration of the near derelict Old County Infirmary Building on the Dublin Road in Portlaoise, and the provision of two additional stand alone office pavilion buildings, flanked either side of the Old County Infirmary which had fallen into disrepair and was no longer in use.

Our brief was to restore the original building to provide office accommodation on all three levels. A new stair and lift core was added to the rear, making the original building fully accessible for all users. Careful attention was given to the restoration of the building fabrics including stairs, windows, roofs, etc. Electrical services were designed to avoid chasing of services and consequential damage of building fabric.

Each of the two office pavilion buildings is two storeys in height and positioned to frame the Old County Infirmary building. The front elevation of each pavilion is back behind a double height arcade, which scale well with the fa├žade of the original building while providing a sense of entry for each of the two pavilions. The buildings are naturally ventilated and window vents were incorporated on the building elevations. Raised access floors and suspended ceilings were provided throughout.
