Ballymacken Co. Laois

This house was built in 2007 in Ballymacken County Laois. The house was designed with specific reference to the old school house building in the nearby town of Abbeyleix.

The random rubble stonework and cut stonework was carefully detailed and realised to great effect.

The house is built around a centrally positioned and top lit double height library space. A minstrel gallery provides scale within the library space.

Internal finishes were very closely designed and detailed by BPA, including feature Oak timber trusses, wood panelling, shelving, built in furniture, bathrooms, tiling and the kitchen furniture.

The house was highly insulated to all surfaces and the traditional windows were carefully detailed to achieve the aesthetic quality, with traditional detail and proportion while also achieving air tightness.

A horizontal ground loop heat pump was installed and a BER rating A was achieved.
